Reference has been made earlier in this section to the stopping of main and auxiliary engines to prevent fire by second engineer jobs, if at all possible, and especially if the vessel is at sea, the bridge should be informed prior to stopping machinery which will affect the navigation of the vessel.
Stopping of machinery
The bridge may then be able to take action to place the vessel in a safer position than may have been possible had the bridge not been notified.
